Soccer Night
3 August 2004 23:59Tonight my Father's U12 team player my Brother's U12 team. Who do you root for in a case like that? Surprisingly it did not turn out as badly as I figured it would. I expected sulking and gloating, but they were actually quite sportsmanlike and amiable about the whole thing. It ended up 5-1 for the sibling team. I have to admit that they played well and did deserve the win, though I am glad it wasn't a shut out. I hate shutouts.
I have a newfound respect for the goalie. It must be hard knowing that if your team looses, you wil be blamed. Forget the strikers, forewards, and attacking mid-fielders who failed to putthe ball in the goal, and forget the defending mid-fielders and defencemen who failed to stop the attackers. Losses are always heaped on the goalies. They poor boy who let in the three goals in the first half looked devastated. And it wasn't his fault, there was nothing he could have done to stop the goals. They were that beautiful.
Oh well, in Mini Soccer it may be competitive, but it is still just a game. Things will get really serious next year when they two teams merge and they go full-field!
