Airports, layovers, and phone woes
I've gotten into Chicago with no problems at all, so life is good. I was far too stressed for far too little. ... Now let's hope I didn't jinx things by saying that ;P
My layover is far longer than I had thought, since I had forgotten to factor in the time difference. That's okay though. They have intarwebz access here, so I can at least keep amused. ... at least for a little bit, since I checked my portable battery.
When I got in, I tried to call home only to discover that Virgin can't verify my account. So much for no problem with calls in the US ... hmmm ... maybe I can call locally but just can't call long distane. I'll have to check on that. They gave me a number to call so I'll do that later if it doesn't fix itself.
I'm taking advantage of the WiFi system they've got here to do a much needed update on my systems. I don't think that I've updated anything since Aruba. Not that that's a problem, since I don't usually access the intarwebz with my laptop.
The flight itself was generally uneventful. It was maybe a little rocky about half-way here, but there was nothing major other than that. Hopefully my next flight is as uneventful.
UPDATE:
Well, I got into Cincinnati just fine. The flight was uneventful, except that the back rows were broken or something and they moved us all up closer to the front. No complaints from me on that. I ended up getting an emergency exit row so there was tons of leg room for once! Once I disembarked, I caught the shuttle ... for those of you coming to BotCon, you don't need to book the shuttle in advance. You just need to if you want to guarantee that it'll be there when you get to the airport. Otherwise they seem to show up about every 15 minutes and can take five people at a time.
It was odd as I drove in, because as I saw the skyline, the theme from WKRP in Cincinnati started playing through my mind ;p
Anyway, I'm in the hotel and got my only real shock of the day as I was unpacking.
The good folks at security had inspected my luggage. This wasn't a problem. I was with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority for long enough to appreciate airport security. No, the problem was that they decided to lock my luggage ... unfortunately, my luggage wasn't locked to begin with because I no longer have the key for the lock attached to my suitcase. Thankfully one of the guys from maintainance brought up a pair of bolt cutters and I was able to get at my stuff without much trouble.
Now, if I can only figure out what's going on with my cell phone, everything will be shiny.
