Work In Progress Wednesday
This is from a Fallout 4 piece I'm working on. It's set during the "House Divided" quest.
Morgan sighed. "I've been through a lot, Doctor Higgs and it has frayed my patience. Maybe think twice before you decide to break it completely."
"Unlike you, Doctor Loken and I are very patient." Higgs smiled, a smug slash pulling his lips back from his teeth. "We have more than enough food to stay locked in here as long as is needed. Remove us by force and everyone will fear and despise you. I'm afraid you lose either way."
"Doctor Loken," Morgan called out. "Are you sure that Doctor Higgs speaks for you? Are you sure that you don't want to come and open the door. End this stand off?"
Loken looked uncertain but then at Higgs' glare he squared his shoulders and shook his head.
"No, we will not open the door until our demands are met," he said, a hint of a waver in his voice.
"Okay," Morgan said. "Okay. Let me lay this out for you. Clearly and precisely, Doctors. You are assuming that I care about what any of you think. I may not be a scientist, but I am an administrator and that means I am very skilled at seeing the big picture. By doing this you've made it clear to everyone out there that you can't be trusted. That you would allow all of them - men, women, children - you'd leave all of them to starve in order to save your pride. Even if I'm not going to remain Director, I can't allow that to happen. You are two men. Out there there are hundreds of people. The math doesn't support me letting this slide."
Higgs opened his mouth to reply but Morgan continued.
"Second. If I give in here then I am telling everyone that I negotiate with terrorists. And believe me, you are both terrorists right now. Those people out there atr going to see you as nothing more than terrorists. Not their colleagues. Not their friends. Terrorists."
"But we're not terrorists!" Loken exclaimed. "We just thought that we could make you listen if we-"
"And third!" Morgan said, raising her voice as if she was issuing orders across a battlefield. She felt no small amount of satisfaction as Loken flinched. "You have locked yourself in a room with synthetic gorillas and only a handfull of guards to protect you. And I have the passcode to let them out."
"You're bluffing!" Higgs said, but there was a hint of uncertainty there.
"Am I? Are you willing to take the chance that I'm not?" Morgan placed the passcard against the window so both scientists could see it clearly. "Now are you going to open the door and end this or do I show you precisely why it was such a bad idea to create synth gorrillas."
