Cell Phones make Wyntir SMASH!

Is it not possible to just buy a phone? I don't want a built in camera, computer, MP3 player, camcoder, internet provider, blue-ray disk player, or a personal shoe-shine boy! I just want a phone for emergencies and so that potential employers can contact me (cause Dad's really bad at passing on messages). I just need a phone! We survived without all the bells and whistles for so long, why do we NEED to have them now?

Is that really such a difficult to grasp the notion of a phone that's just a phone? Why can't I just have a phone that's a phone? Why do I need to have all these bells and whistles that I won't use? And yes, I was told that I NEED these crappy features. I tried to explain to the kid (he was 12, I think) that I have a digital camera, an MP3 Player and a PDA and that I didn't need them on my phone too. I tried to tell him that I just needed a device that would let me talk to people. I mean, honestly, if Bell would just stop removing all the pay phones I wouldn't even need a cell. The kid actually asked me what a pay phone was ... I could have cried.

Why is it that everytime I inform people that I don't have a cell they look at me like I'm a sociopath ... I don't want a cell!

Make the evil tech go away ... *sob*

I've got a nice, simple Nokia 6010 which is just a phone -- no camera, no real bells and whistles. I got it for, I think it was about 80 dollars all together from Cingular. It's one of their Go Phones that uses their Pay as you Go system. Meaning, I pay, say 25 dollars, and can use that to make calls. There's a charge of a dollar a day to activate the phone but that's deducted off the phone's balance and then after that all calls are 10 cents a minute, nationwide (I'm in the US, in case you're not) or free to others on Cingular network.

In my case, I can make a $25 card last about 2-3 months, depending on how many calls I have to make.

Thanks for that! I'll look into that phone and see if we have Cingular in Canada.
