13 December 2004 16:59Dad went in for his knee replacement surgery this morning. We got to the hospital at 6 and he was admitted at 6:30 and under the knife by 7:30. Since the knee bleeds a great deal, they needed him conscious to make sure everything was fine, so they froze him in the spine and in the groin. We got a call at about 10 with the news that everything was good and he would be out of observation in a couple of hours.
My mom called the hospital at 2 to confirm that he was in his room, and was told that he was and what his room number was. We arrived to see him at 3:30 only to discover that his bed was still occupied and that he was still in recovery because the bed was not free, and no, we could not see him until he was in his room. The kid in the room was waiting for his father to come pick him up from Toronto. He figures he'll be out a 6 or 7, then it'll take an hour to change the sheets and get dad in the room. That puts it at 8, when visiting hours are likely over.
Gee, you figure that the left hand has no clue what the right is doing? Oh, well, the important this is my dad is well. I hope I can sleep well tonight, with no nightmares.
