I finally understand why some people 'go postal' or suffer from 'road rage'.

I'm driving into work this morning and I'm stuck behind this huge truck with it's left blinker on. There are several spots for it to turn but it's not turning. Apparently the driver forgot. I was behind it for the length of highway 16 from Fisher to Hunt Club. Then, this guy on a cell phone starts drifting into my lane. When I politely beep to warn him, he flips me the bird. Then I get boxed into the right lane when I have to be in the left by this girl who is driving 40 in an 80 zone. If I wasn't so stable I would have done something regretful.

Now, I get into work and discover that I may not have a job next week because of the idiotic govenment systems in place. I am presently working for a temp agency and am placed at the CF Housing Agency. My job entails entering data into Oracle. Simple job, considering my data entry rate in over 7000 characters per hour. However, I discover that I can't access Oracle until I've taken an online course, and I can't take the course unless I have a PRI (Personel Record Identifier, for those who don't know). I have a PRI, but since I'm not presently a government employee, it can't be used. You would think that Human Resources would have mentioned this to the Agency when they put in the request for a temp.

CFHA: "Hey, HR, we need a temp to enter stuff into Oracle."
HR: "Sorry CFHA, you need a PRI to access Oracle and temps don't get PRIs. You'll need to higher a Contractor."

Now was that so hard? Admitedly, I am making money for the time I'm here, but I turned down other positions for this. This is the second time that DND administration has screwed me over in a temp position.

I'd be tempted to go down to 101 and give them a piece of my mind, but they have guns and I don't.

Hey, does anybody want to get together and do something tonight? Coffee? Dinner? Movie? Anybody else want to get out tonight?

Okay, I have a pet peeve that has been driving me crazy today. It's hand shaking. I realize that I'm a snob, but it doesn't change the fact that there is a right way and a wrong way to shake hands.

Firmly grasp the persons hand. Do not shake like a dead fish. When I shake hands with a 'dead fish' I get the idea that this person couldn't care less, and doesn't want to shake. If that's the case, then don't shake hands.

That being said, do not attempt to crush the person's hand. This isn't a contest of strength. Firmly does not mean hurt the person.

Also, make sure you grasp the whole hand. Ensure that your thumb webbing meets there's. This ensures that you get the whole hand. I had a woman shake my hand today (hence the rant) who grasped my hand with her thumb placed squarely in the center of the back of my hand and squeezed. This hurts, people! Don't do it!

There. I have several other pet peeves regarding hand shakes, but, they don't apply at the moment, and they are all a bit too Emily Post.
