The seal hunt has recently been making the headlines again. First Paul McCartney and his wife came to watch (and protest, I believe) and now the Senators (the politicians, not the hockey players) all got a letter from the McLellan family in Minnestta. They say in their letter that the seal hunt is awful and that they're cancelling their trip to Canada and won't come back until we get rid of the seal hunt.

Senator Céline Hervieux-Payette responded by saying that Americans should be the last ones to criticize any country, considering the attrocities their government is committing. Personally, I think she should have ignored the letter, but, hey, it's not like they can fire her. She's in office until she retires at 75.

My thought's on the letter are as follows:

Oh no! The McLellan family isn't coming! Our economy is going to collapse! Quick! Do something!

I won't get into an discussion about the mertis and flaws of the seal hunt. You can read up on it yourself (http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/sealhunt/). I have my own beliefs and I don't want a flame war. I will, however, leave you with this: The only reason many people care about this is because harp, grey, and hooded seals are cute. If we were hunting elephant seals, no one would give a damn. If you're going to be an animal rights activist, then you have to care about all of them, not just the cute ones.
