Title: The Devil You Know

Series: G1 universe, focusing on Original characters

Rating: R

Summary: In the early days of the civil war on Cybertron, Sentinel Prime authorized several refugee vessels to take Neutrals away from the planet in hopes that they could start peaceful colonies where they would be safe. Many of these refugees were never heard from again; lost to us through time and distance. But history does record the fate of one of the vessels. The Stormchaser was three orns away from its destination when it was shot down by Decepticons in an act of cowardice and deceit. There were no survivors. That is what history tells us. But in this case, history is wrong.

Author's Note: Day six. I just got past the 10K mark so I am doing better than last year at this point. I've been taking my laptop to work with me and writing on the bus. It amounts to about a 45 minute comute each way, so an hour and a half of writing - give or take. I'm trying to escape the office at lunch for another 45 minutes of writing as well. So far I've been having to eat at my desk (no rest for the wicked and all that), but tomorrow the administrators are pretty much alone for the day, so I should be able to escape. We'll see.

I got very little completed last night, but since i was abover my projected word count, I'm still on track today.

I have to say that I find it interesting how this story is progressing. I had it all planned out before I ever started writing it. I had indepth chapter summaries, I had character profiles, and I even had pictures in my head of what they look like. But now that I'm writing, that's all changed.

Arclight has morphed from my original vision of her. She was supposed to be fun, relaxed, self-assured, and elegant -- actually she was supposed to be a bit of an opposite to Ratchet. Now, however, I'm seing bits of Julian Bashir coming out in her. I'll be interested to see where it goes.

And Cobalt, one of my major secondary characters is turning into a complete jerk. I wanted him to be a knight in shining armour, but now he's turning into a fascist bastard. I wanted him to be King Arthur but he's turning into Javert ...

Chris Batty was right. In this type of writing, it's the characters who tell the story, not the author.

Anyway, my word count yesterday was 7,051. Today I hope to hit 10,000. And if not, then I hope the finish Chapter One :)

Well, there's no update today, since the bulk of Chapter 2 is elluding me right now. Of, the writing is coming along swimmingly, I just don't have the chapter where I want it to be before it's done.

Unfortunately, the NaNo site is down, and thus, I can't update my word count. Rumour has it that the site's been hacked, but the truth is, they've been having problems from the get go. I've heard that the servers can't handle the number of people that are doing NaNo this year. So far this is the first problem I've had with the site, but a number of folks are complaining that they've been having difficulties since about the last week of October.

Well, either way, I know what I've done, it's not like I'm paying to be in this contest, and as long as things are working for the final confirmation upload, I don't really care ... well maybe a little, but I won't stress over it.

Anyway, enough rambling. In lieu of a chapter, I'll just post my wordcount meter:

Author's Note: Day two and still going strong. I got my word count in just in time, so it still counts for today -- make that yesterday, as it's now tomorrow. And, in fact, as I write I'm getting a better feel for the future of the story, beyond what I already had planned. This should be a good thing.

Author's Note: This is the first day's work on this year's NaNo challenge. It will be rough and wild, and sometimes contradictory, but I figure that if I post this, it will remain the kick in the pants that I'll need to finish.

Prologue

It's almost September, which means that it's almost November, which means that it's almost National Novel Writing Month again. And here I sit, with last year's entry not yet finished.

I will finish it, even though the general lack of interest in it is a tad disheartening (but, meh! What are you going to do? I write for me, not for the comments -- at least that's what I tell myself). Metamorphosis rough and pretty random, but I'm still pleased with it in general, though it will need a serious rewrite eventually.

I still have 15,427 words left to write before I have reached last year's goal of 50,000, and 13 chapters left in the story. Not bad, really. Not when I have 33 days to finish, since I want October to plan this year's entry. However, I have come to a conclusion regarding this year.

First off, if I don't finish Metamorphosis, I will not be participating this year. I don't want any more WIPs on my plate than I already have.

Second, even though I will be posting my progress here on LJ, I will not be posting it elsewhere until it's finished. I need to complete, then edit. Metamorphosis would have been a very different piece of work had I done this.

So, that's that, then. We'll see how it goes ...
