Here I sit at my new job and it is not what I had expected.
First off, the location. Admidedly, with where I live and Ottawa`s rapid transit system, I suppose that it`s innevetable that I have to drive for twenty minutes and then take two buses ... I left my house at 7:30 and got into work at 9:00. An hour and a half commute is not exactly reasonable. And the building has no available parking, so driving all the way isn`t an option, even though it would cut a good 45 minutes off my commute ... how sad is that ...
Secondly, my location in the building. They have dropped in off at a rolling desk in the middle of the lunch room! I am trying to do quality assurance on a francophone computer in the middle of a room where people meet for food and drink all day long ...
And that brings us to the job ... I`m cross referencing returned mail to the addresses we have in our system. I get to surf Canada444 and Google so that I can call people accross Canada and explain to them that Foreign Affairs needs their mailing address. ... trust me it doesn`t go over well, considering that half the people I`ve called have been privately employed immigrants of middle eastern decent who think that I`m calling from Immigration.
But on the plus side, at least the lunchroom has a nice view of the Ottawa River, and Green Island. Beyond that is Vanier, but I`ll just ignore that portion of the city.
