Today's Shortpacked! really covers my view of the reactions of a lot of the TF fanbase. The strip can be found here -- if you're completely avoiding spoilers, then don't look.

I keep seeing these fans who scream and yell that they're going to boycott the movie because of the voice actors, because of the director, because of the live actors, because of the animation, etc. I could respect them if they could stick to their guns about it, but I know that more than half of these rabid fans are going to be there on opening night and a portion of those are going to be bitching throughout the film.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about the people who are able to come up with a valid argument for why Actor A is better than Actor B or why this animation is better than that. I'm not talking about the "Well gee, I can't see how that would work" crowd. I'm talking about the "OMG!!!! HOW THE &%#&(*^ CAN THEY DO THAT!!!! IT'S A SL4P IN THE FACE!!! THEY *&)(^() SUXORS!! DIE BAY DIE!!11!!1!"

*shakes head* I suppose that some people, especially the children on the internet who hide behind they annonimity, would die if they stopped complaining and started acting like the adults the majority of them are.

Unfortunately, a percentage (most?) of the really strong opinions are undoubtedly written in the heat of the moment, the way that nasty emails get written. But it would be nice if others could recognize venting for what it is and just skim over it instead of getting involved in hate contests. I'm finding that the whole environment around the film feels pretty bad. It would be better if people who don't like would just walk away and forget about it. No point in getting upset by looking at something that you know already upsets you. That's kind of why I stopped reading the newspaper.

You're comments have been heated, but you're intelligent enough to not resort to name calling and childish threats. It's really unfortunate that the most vocal of the fanbase seem to lack that intelligence and restrain. And I completely agree with you, it'd be nice if people could stop with the hate fest, especially toward fans who have a different point of view.

No point in getting upset by looking at something that you know already upsets you.

That's the exact reason why I didn't go see The daVinci Code, Posseidon, and King Kong. I knew I wouldn't like them, so I avoided them.

This is why I'm pretty much avoiding venturing anywhere in TF Fandom Land except the Cell until probably 2008 when all the crying, whining, and outrage will have come and gone. I really can't stand whining about this kind of thing. It's a freakin' MOVIE, for pity's sake. Don't like it, don't see it. Simple as that.

Then again, I'm not a 20something fanboy, and Transformers aren't my life, so I guess this crap just doesn't affect me much. One of the (very few) benefits of being over 40, I guess. :)
