As some of you know, we put out place up for sale recently. It was on the market for a little over a week when we got an offer of $190,000. Problem is, the house is on the market for $204,000 and no house of our model has gone for less than $200,000. Of course my parents said no.
Late last week this couple came back with another offer. $199,900 and we didn't have to fix the driveway, the crumbling bricks, the front stoop, and the basement gutters. My parents agreed on the condition that they got their mortgage approval. So far everything is hunky dory.
Now they have sent in a inspector, as is normal in this situation. He, the buyers, and our realtor looked about the house and he found three things wrong:
1. A beam in the attic is cracked.
2. The flashing on the chimney is coming loose.
3. Our outdoor oil tank is leaking.
So of course we are going to get these things fixed, these are major things, especially the oil tank. That takes precedence. We have the guys from Sears come in to look at the tank and he discovers that there is no leak. Who told us we had a leak? Where is the paperwork documenting the leak? What do you mean you received no paperwork?
Turns out that the inspector was supposed to give us a copy of his findings. He didn't. He has, allegedly, contacted Environment Canada to tell them of our potentially tainted soil. The Sears guy is taking a complaint to the board that oversees these matters.
I think we've been conned. I think that this 'inspector' was probably a relative of the couple and they're going to come back with a new offer of $190,000 and we don't have to fix anything.
I'm not only confused, but I'm pissed off by all of this.
Our realtor tells us that the inspector was going to drop off a copy of the report with us. He also said that there should be a copy of the report filed somewhere. He didn't and there isn't.
I think someone is trying to cheat us.
