That's not entirely true. In general, the folks I work with directly are great (except the sulky guy, but that's a different story). However, today I had to attend the New Employees Orientation session and I met an entirely new class of co-worker there.
Normally, I wouldn't attend these things, because I am a temp, and therefore, not an employee of the government agency I work with. But, by manager wanted me to go, she approved my goin, so, off I go.
The session starts out fine, until the first break, when the MC suggests that we take this time to get to know each other and make contacts in the various departments. So I figure sure. I introduce myself to this one group:
Me: Temp Goddess
Them: Jerk Co-workers
Me: Hi, I'm, I'm the Administrative Assistant to Mrs. X up in Department Y.
Them: Oh, that's nice. I hadn't heard that they'd filled that position.
Me: The haven't yet. I'm temping until the position is filled.
Them: Oh. (like they've swallowed something foul)
And suddenly, I'm pond scum, and how dare I pollute their air. No one said a word to me after that. And I may be being paranoid, but I think I heard one of the women asking the MC why a temp was at the session! (I may be wrong, it was in french and I'm still a bit rusty).
I hate this attitude that full time employees are better than temps. Considering that it can take the Canadian Federal Government over a year to fill a position, business would crawl to a halt without temps taking up the slack.
I want to shoot someone and eat lots of chocolate cake after this morning ... so much for the diet.
