Actually back
22 July 2007 12:29Well, I'm back in Ottawa after a very trying trip.
We arrived at the airport with more than enough time to spare. We always arrive early because my father's metal knees always casue problems, especially in smaller airports where they might not have seen implants like that before. There's also the problem of my mother's C-Pack. It's a breathing device she uses when she sleeps because of her sleep apnea. It's a strange machine made up of tubes, pumps, and water reservoirs. That always gets stopped and searched too.
So anyway, we arrive with time to spare and make our way to the gate. And we wait ... and wait ... and wait. It turns out that the flight ahead of us hadn't left because they needed to refuel, so they moved our flight to another gate. We went there and discovered that our plane also needed to be refueled, but the tanker ran out of gas. So while they were refilling the tanker, they let us onto the plane. Then they tried to continue to refuel the plane, but now that there were passengers on board they needed to have a fire truck present, and Queen Beatrix Airport has only one fire truck. So finally, the plane was fueled, but now they discovered that First Class had no food, so we had the wait some more. In the end, we left Aruba two hours late and got to sit behind two Beavis and Butthead rejects who kept slamming their seats backwards and calling the stewards for no reason. ... Oh, and there was no water on board. Toilets worked but you had to use club soda to wash your hands afterwards ....
We arrived in Washington with literally five minutes to spare. We ran to the gate and got onto the Air Canada Jazz flight just before they closed the doors. Unfortunately, our luggage didn't make it. We just learned that it did arrive in Ottawa, and it's being delivered now. ... It was a hell of a day yesterday.
Today we picked up Tika and she's doing well, though angry at being confined to a cage. In two weeks we can take her out and let her wander a bit, but for right now, she has to be kept still. All we can do with her is her mobility exercizes. Thankfully she is trying to use the bad leg. The vets say that it's a good sign.
