No, no, this isn't like every other rant. Personally I am not upset that TF lost to Golden Compas for Visual Effects. Today I have seen no less than three complaints that the Award should have been given to TF, and I will not deny people their opinions, but I do have to ask: If we weren't Transfans would we feel the same way?
I mean, seriously! The skill required to animate living animals that we all recognize is unbelievable. Every hair has to be animated seperately. Every muscle has to be animated seperately and must be made to move as it would in life. The animator myst not only be versed in computers, but he must also have a keen understanding of kinetics, biology, as well as a host of other skills. Because you know what happens if they get the animation wrong? We notice and are put off. We may not be able to put our finger on what the problem is, but we know that it's wrong.
I honestly believe that if Transformers had only been up against Pirates, then Transformers would have won, I think. But when you put something like Compass into teh running, then it will leave the others in the dust.
Of course, all the Transfans out there are welcome to their opinions, but I would just suggest that you all take a breath and step back from the Transfan-ness and judge the movies based on their merit alone. If, after that, you are able to honestly tell me that Transformers deserved to win, then I will happily listen to you.
(and of course, this whole discussion has not, and will not take into account that the Academy Awards are an "Old Boys' Club", and historically, they have not liked pure action films)
