This will likely get many angry retorts, but I have to vent my spleen. I have kept quiet on this, but I have had enough.
I am tired of hearing the brainwashed rhetoric: "It doesn't matter who you vote for, just vote!"
That is complete and total crap. It does matter who you vote for and why you vote for him. Most people are completely uninformed on the issues and will vote simply because they are told to.
"My parents are Republicans."
"The Dixie Chicks told me to vote Democrat."
"My Reverend supports Nader."
These are not reasons to vote for a person. I, for one, feel that if you are uninformed, do not vote. Become informed, then vote. Sift the media. Go to the web sites of the politicians to learn about their views. Ask people their opinions. And above all else, remember that everyone has an agenda. Keep that agenda in mind when making your informed decision.
I did not fill out an absentee ballot this year, because I am uninformed on the issues. I am following my own advice.
Remember, regardless of what you are told, voting is not a civic duty. Informed voting is. Anything else is idiotic.
There, my spleen is vented. Perhaps too late for this election, but there will be another one in two years.
