Day 6

In your own space, rec at least 3 fanworks you thought you wouldn't like (because they weren't your fandom or they pushed against your boundaries or you thought you just wouldn't be interested) and that you ended up loving.

1. Crackalackalicious. -- I almost didn't read this one based on the name and the summary. I tend to really dislike TFs-as-human fics because they don't deal with the repercussions, no explanations are given, and they tend to be nothing more than, well, crack. I am so glad that I didn't give into my preconceptions that Kidu's Adapt would be the only good TF's-as-humans fic and all others would be pale imitations. This fic does fit into many of the bad elements -- it's crack, explanations come like they did on Lost (with more questions than answers), and it can be viewed as a giant excuse for an orgy scene. It turns out though, that it's so much more than that. There's subtlety there and LadyDragon76 is dealing with issues that I've never seen taken on in a fic of this genre. What happens to the war where there are no more soldiers? How does a non-biological being deal with organic needs and urges? And so many more questions that I can't go into here without spoiling. One word of warning, however: LadyDragon76 does not pull punches in her writing. Heed the warnings! Trust me, they are not just suggestions.

2. I am not a Harry Potter fangirl. I liked the books well enough, but I had seen the fandom, and frankly, the shipping wars there scare the hell out of me. I tend to avoid the fandom like the plague and the few times I have crossed over there, I have been terribly disappointed. So, imagine my surprise when I discovered Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality by Less Wrong. This story is how AUs should be written. It sets up the universe and keeps to its own rules while still keeping true to the creator's vision.

Summary: Petunia married a professor, and Harry grew up reading science and science fiction. Then came the Hogwarts letter, introducing strange new opportunities to exploit. And new friends, like Hermione, and Professor McGonagall, and Professor Quirrell.

3. I HATE MPreg. There is just something the very concept that my mind refuses to accept and as such, I can't manage to suspend my disbelief. That being the case, I have no idea why I was willing to read Reavien's "The Pains and Gains of Motherhood". Sadly, Reavien has pulled down almost all versions of her story, save for over on the Stealthy Stories forum. The plot is this: When Donatello was captured by Bishop he was experimented upon and has somehow become pregnant through Bishop's genetic meddling. The story covers the nine months of pregnancy and the truth behind Bishop's plot. My only issue with it was the very end of it. I like dark fic, and the happy ending seemed tacked on to me. But that's just me.

Sadly, the entire story has not been reposted to Stealthy Stories and the last entry was dated July 2010.
