Day 12
In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you think would make a good intro into XYZ fandom. Rec a fandom overview, a introductory picspam, stories that define and shape the fandom.
I have a small problem with this one. I'm not part of any small fandoms. The fandoms that I'm part of really are rather hard to define.
The issue with both Transformers and TMNT is "Which canon?" Transformers has had something like 15 different canons, some of which contradicts itself within it's own universe. TMNT isn't quite as bad, but still bad enough, what with the 3 cartoons, the live action series, and the various comics ...
If I had to pick one spot to get introduced though? I think for Transformers, I'd go with Straya's Second Chances and Nkfloofiepoof's Hate the Dark. Both fics give the feel for the fandom. They have the adventure and the desperate feel of a race that has been at war for far too long. Just a warning, Hate the Dark contains slash, just in case that's something you don't care for ... then again, if you don't care for slash, you might want to avoid the fandom in general. When dealing with a canon that has only about one female character for every thousand male, it doesn't tent to lend itself to Het.
TMNT is a little harder for me because a lot of the good introductory fics are sitting left unfinished. Splinter's In Another's Shoes is a good way to get a feel for the characters, though it is sadly unfinished. there are a ton of others, but it really depends on which canon you prefer.
