So ... I just went with a buddy to see Snow White and the Huntsman today.

It, uhm, ... it was pretty. I will give it that. As for the rest ...

This movie ran for just over two hours and was easily three hours too long. My god, I have not seen such a boring movie in a long, long time. I will admit, I wasn't looking forward to it, but went because my buddy wanted to see it. She loves Snow White and the concept was intriguing, and I was willing to put aside my dislike of Deadpan McGee for some yummy Hemsworth goodness. So, I was game for it. After all, it couldn't be that bad, right?

Let's start with the good, shall we? It was visually lovely - I'd even be tempted to say stunning. The CGI was well done. The reinterpretation was really very interesting. ... uhm ... did I mention it was pretty?

Sadly, the bad far outstrips the good.

Kristen Stewart provided her normal Deadpan McGee performance, though she was nowhere near as bad as in Twilight. I would put this on par with The Runaways. She wasn't awful but she didn't add a single thing to the movie. They could have replaced her with a rock and the performance might have been the same.

The plot had an interesting premise that totally failed in practice. Plot strands were introduced and never run with and those that were followed were never resolved. The Queen and her brother had a more compelling back story than Snow White and we never get to see it! Not really at any rate.

There were so many questions as I walked out of the theatre:
- Why did the Queen's mother cast that spell on her?
- Why were the Queen and her brother psychically tied together?
- Why was Snow White able to tame the bridge troll?
- Was the blind dwarf psychic? And if not what the hell was his deal?
- Why didn't the queen have power in the forest?
- Why did the forest feed off of doubts or fear or whatever the hell that was?
- Was the Huntsman Snow's true love and if not then why was the spell broken?
- And on the same note, WHY did a kiss break the spell? And no movie, you don't get to say that it's because that's how the fairy tale went! We need explanations movie!

- And Kristen? Learn how to kiss on screen. As usual, it looked like someone had a gun to your head. Tentative kisses should not look that damned forced and painful!

Argh! This movie had plot holes the size of Motormaster, it was filled with beautiful padding that led to nothing, and was filled with enough dangling plot threads to choke a damned horse!

So, yeah, boring, frustrating, and pretty. It was a waste of time, a waste of money, and a huge waste of talent. With the exception of Deadpan McGee all of the stars in this were better than this movie.

One plus thing to leave this on, though: If they ever make a movie explaining the back-story of the Queen and her brother I would so go see it. THAT was a compelling story. Unlike the drivel the movie ended up being.
