WIP Update

So, I have two Works in Progress that I'm trying to complete. Or at least make a dent in. The first is The Polyhex Candidate and the second is an original story that's inspired both by the Lovecraft Circle Mythos and the gothic-ish horrors of Hammer Pictures, Robert Bloch, and Shirley Jackson.
Polyhex was on hiatus for quite some time as I wrestled with some characterization issues, but now I finally feel that I have a handle on Ultra Magnus, the problematic scene is finished, and I'm moving on to some serious action.
The Original story is less done. Here's the thing, I had about 30 or 40k written of usable text on this, when I realized I had no idea where I was going or what I was doing. So now I'm kind of restarting from scratch. The plot of it is that a man returns to his ancestral home and is confronted with the ghost of his sister. He flees, but after he gets himself back together he decides that he needs to look into this since he wants to sell the house rather than continue to rent it (the house has a history of tragedy and he can't keep tenants). He brings in an alleged medium to look into the house and the potential haunting, but being a practical man, he also approaches the local university about getting a parapsychologist and hires a private investigator to look into the medium. The medium's manager contacts the press, hoping that he'll be able to get good publicity from the weekend's events. So that's the cast. Wealthy land owner, Private Eye, Parapsychologist, Reporter, Medium, Manager, Fangirl/aspiring actress, and the cook. They come to the house for a weekend and learn that there is something horrible inside it that won't stop trying to cleanse the world of sin.
So for that one I have finally managed to figure out the back story of the house and the Merrowport family and have kind of figured out who and what the haunting is. I say kind of because there may be a South Seas curse associated with all of this too. And I have set up the history and background of the world I'm setting it in. I discovered I needed to do this when I decided that there were clockwork horses, babbage computers, and potentially a lack of modern electronics.
And that's that. I'm probably going to be posting both WIPs on Yarny as soon as I can get Yarny to acknowledge that I actually have an account. It seems as good a place as any, seeing as it allows for chapters and breakdowns, where Google Docs doesn't seem to.
