Lincoln Heights Galleria has a big sign up advertising that you can have your child's picture taken with the Spring Bunny. ... Uhm, excuse me? Spring Bunny? Last time I checked it was called the Easter Bunny. What? Is the term Easter Bunny offending Jews? After alll, we all know that a giant buny who delivers eggs is a primary symbol in Passover. Or is it that it's offensive to middle class agnostic whites who are worries that it might offend someone.
Well, all that's been accomplished is to potentially offend Christians (though what a bunny has to do with a crucifixion, I'll never know) and the Pagans who celebrate Ostara (or variant thereof).
Seriously, though, when is this going to stop?
We've lost Christmas/Chanukah/Yule, and now Easter (and I'm sure Passover is on the list too). Pretty soon we'll lose all of our Holidays. They'll all be called Civic Holiday and be completely secularized and we'll have to go to church/synagogue/mosque/fairy circle/temple in the dark, at night, and have to worship in little camarillas just like the early Roman christians.
Welcome to 1984, people. Orwell was right, though he was a few decades off on the end date. After this we get to live through Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World, and Sam Hall. But, hey, at least we won't have to face A Handmaid's Tale
