What were they thinking?

The gist of it is that someone at Paramount had the genius idea of sticking 4,500 music devices into random Los Angeles Times news boxes. These would play the Mission Impossible theme when someone opened the box to get a paper. The paper claimed that this was to "turn the everyday news rack experience into an extraordinary mission."
Nice idea, though if I had to listen to that song first thing in the morning I'd be right pissed off. I'm not much of a morning person (No?! Really?!).
So here's the problem. The boxes were falling off the side of the box and onto the papers. People would open the box and see a small red box sprouting random wires sitting on the papers. Needless to say, people were concerned. One such concerned citizen called the cops, who proceeded to send in the bomb squad. The bomb squad blew up the paper box.
I have to say that this ad campaign fits right up there with WKRP's Thanksgiving Turkey Toss (I know, I'm old that I remember WKRP in Cincinatti)
