This weekend was busy, it was very busy. ...

Saturday was a normal Saturday. It's the day we reserve for shopping. So I ordered a pair of prescription sunglasses and then trundled off to the Costco to look at computers. That turned into an adventure in and of itself.

See, Costco only accepts cash, cheque, or American Express. And since I didn't have enough money in my account I had to apply for a card from them. But first, I had to be sure they had anything I was interested in ... So I go over to the computer section and talk to the guy there. Their choices are Sony, HP, or Acer. So, I ask him what he thinks of these three. I fully expect him to push the Sony because it was the most expensive, but I was surprised.

"I don't have much faith in the Sony," says he, "and Acer is a brand new company out of North Korea."

I honestly thought I heard thunder cracking and horses panicking when he said the words North Korea. It was just that kind of tone ... Anyway, I ended up getting the credit card and a line of credit on it, and walked out with the HP. It had everything I needed and it was cheeper than anything else I had seriously looked at before.

After the computer shopping we went clothes shopping, and then in the evening we headed out to see Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End. I liked it. It was better than 2 by far, but nowhere near as good as 1. It was a good trilogy ender, so I was happy. Some of the real Piracy references tickled my fancy too, like the mention of Morgan and Bartholomew writing the Codex, and the brief appearance of Blackbeard's flag in the armada. In general it was good fun. ... But then we got home and couldn't find either of my boys.

We call them, we search high and low, and there is no sign of Keegan or Logan. We finally find Keegan locked in the cold storage room. Apparently he had been there all day.

Logan was finally found outside on the neighbour's windowsill. It seems that he must have fallen off the deck at some point in the afternoon. Before we left for the movie we checked the deck and didn't see him there. We just assumed that he had found a hiding place inside the house and was sleeping. ... nope.

Thankfully it wasn't raining and he had stayed quiet. He didn't start crying until we were nearly on top of him. We think it must have been the case all day. Under normal circumstances I might have been tempted to say STUPID CAT!, but we've had an increase in the number of coyotes in the area and they have no problem running off with something as small as Logan.

So, we got him in safe and sound, and he demanded much hugs and pets. And Keegan is still mad at us and refusing to talk to us. ... I would hope that they learned something, but I doubt it.

So, yeah, it was a busy and eventful weekend.

Acer has been around for awhile and is a Taiwan-based company. According to their Canadian site, they are up to third place in terms of global market share of PCs. I don't know why he'd say they were North Korean...

Quite. I don't think there are any North Korean exporters that would be prominent enough to feature in a big Canadian store. Wikipedia tells me that about the only computer-related company in North Korea is "Korea Computer Centre Sinhung Company".

Maybe some parts are manufactured in North Korea or something? That's the only thing that I could potentially think of.

Acer used to be a part of IBM. They manufactured parts for them before getting into selling PCs and laptops under their own name. And yes, they've been around a while. Been over 10 years since I was in retail (worked at Future Shop) and the brand had been around a while even then.

Don't know why the sales guy would say that, except that he didn't do his research and has no idea what he's talking about or is pushing the one with the biggest profit margin. Sony is a good name no matter what the product. When I was looking at laptops, I was waffling between Toshiba and HP. Toshiba won because it had more RAM and I got a fantastic deal on it.

Glad you found your kitty. I've had some adventures looking for my dogs. Once I had to pick one up from the Human Society on Christmas Eve. Another time, one of them had gone to 711.

Yeah, I guess the guy really didn't know what he was talking about. The Sony they had looked a little shoddy simply because it had been dropped at one point in it's life and some of the keys were missing. ... Yeah, I know, not necessarily the thing to go by.

In the end, the HP had what I wanted and it was decently priced. It came to a little over 1,300 with the taxes, and that's pretty decent for Ottawa right now. Acer was considerably cheaper, but I'd never heard of them and I tend to be leery about the lowest bidder.

Your dog went to the 7-11? *lol*
