Day 8

I can crochet fairly well.

This is probably a stupid question, but how do you get the tension right?

(I've failed consistently at crochet for a long time, although I can perfectly well. I'd love to be able to crochet too).

Not a stupid question in the slightest. Getting the tension right can be a right bitch sometimes. Sadly I've never been much of a teacher, so all I can really suggest is to take the work slow. Eventually as you work you'll get into a rhythm and the gauge will come easier.

I also found it easier to start with pieces where the gauge and the tension aren't quite as important, like granny squares and straight crochet blankets and scarves.

This one (http://thechristmascraftcollective.blogspot.com/2010/10/simplest-scarf.html) is easy and the tension ins't quite as urgent as some other patterns.

I hope this helps out!

I'll try that, thankyou :D And that scarf looks like a really great project (looks just the thing my mum might like for her birthday, which is thankfully in November so I have plenty of time to practice!).

I'll have another go at granny squares beore trying anything more complex I think, and just take it slow. I tried to crochet a bathmat out of old t-shirts a while back, and thanks to my terrible tension, I ended up with a hat.
